Kilcock is the rockingest place for a weekend away 2006 February 21 20:43
Posted by diamond in : Random, Cycling , 1 comment so farNo really. I went up saturday evening to visit the liv. Stayed till monday afternoon. It was Good. Talked to liv lots, plotted with her on various world domination plans (all based strangely on statistics. what’re the chances of that eh?), met liv’s sister michelle and chatted to her lots too. There was also miscellanous sleep, and movie watchage, and mountains of food (which at one point defated me i must admit). Verily i shall return there anon. To liv and michelle: thank you for a great weekend, you guys rock.
In cycling news (is that excitement i hear?), i went out twice with dan in the last few days; 16km @ 22.86kmph last thursday (or friday, we can’t remember), and 17.4km @ 20.40kmph last night (bloody freezing it was too). Here’s to really being back on a regular cycling schedule.

Posted by diamond in : Random , 3 commentsThank you. You have been an amazing help to me.
For the rest of you, i’ve been doing microcontroller development for the past few weeks, trying to get up to speed on it. The initial learning curve is probably steeper than anything else i’ve done in as long as i can remember. But oh is it fun -) Today i was having some problems getting things working, and myself and cjb conversed in the region of 47KB before all was conquered. At a guess, if he wasn’t around, i’d have typed that much on my own, mainly repeating “WHY IS IT NOT WORKING!!!”. *cough*. As it is, i have some very minor things to show for the day, but it’s enough to make me very happy.
Yay for microcontrollers. Yay for assembly. No really. I’ve really enjoyed this -)

I’m back 2006 February 12 18:00
Posted by diamond in : Cycling , add a commentFor the first time in over 2 months, i went for a cycle today. I woke up this morning and it occurred to me that with my eye problems mostly under control i am finally up to cycling again. I took it easy, 11.5km @ 25.5kmph, which i’m quite happy with. It’s really good to feel like my life is getting back to normal again.
A couple of hours after the cycle, i was talking to dan, and suddenly started feeling faint and shaking badly. I guessed it was due to not having eaten since the cycle, and rectifying that seems to have fixed things. It was slightly alarming nonetheless.

Posted by diamond in : Random , 1 comment so farYesterday i had my long-awaited appointment with the dermatologist. He’s put me on really strong hydrocortisone(sp?) for 2 days, followed by a lower dose for a further 20 days. during that time i’ll be called up to dublin to get a patch test done. This means they will test areas of my skin for allergic reactions for 99% of all substances that call allergies. In the meantime, to keep me from scratching the affected area in my sleep, i’ve been put on piriton, an antihistamine. The consultant told me to take one every 45mins until i fell asleep. Amusingly, in the pharmacy, the chemist told me to be careful with the piriton as they “may cause drowsieness” ,-)
So, last night i ended up taking 2 piriton, and spent the rest of the night in a state not that dissimilar to being drunk. I think this pretty much sums it up: i had to hold onto the bed in order to stop myself from falling upwards. It was rather surreal.
Email address validation 2006 February 8 0:32
Posted by diamond in : Random , 3 commentsThis is an attempt at a definitive javascript regex to check the syntax of an email address. Corrections most welcome. This is based on a reading of this (with additional checking of rfc 2822 for correctness). Here goes:
^[A-Za-z/-9!#-'*+\-/=?_`{-~^]
([A-Za-z.-9!#-'*+\-/=?_`{-~^]*
[A-Za-z/-9!#-'*+\-/=?_`{-~^])?
@([A-Za-z0-9]+\.)+[A-Za-z0-9]+\.?$
(split into multiple lines to prevent horrible formatting)
Note: this is the literal regex. To use it in a javascript string, you’d need to double the \’s for a start.
*Update*
Note: this doesn’t take into account the length limitations in either the local part or domain part. Should i add them?
*Update 2*
From comments from cjb, it now has better (and simpler!) domain parsing.
*Update 3*
From more comments from cjb, some evil (and not so evil) shortening done using character ranges.
