Posted by diamond in : Work , add a commentSome of ye may know how much work and misery the decision that we had to port our code to osx caused me a month or two back? Well, guess what. It turns out it was completely pointless! Oh the joy that overwhelms me prevents me from properly describing said joy. We moved from linux to osx because we needed flash8, and macromedia haven’t bothered making a flash8 for linux yet. We moved to flash8 because we needed to be able to save an image. I’ve just found out that we can’t do that in flash8 either, so we’re back to taking a screenshot and cropping it on the fly. That’s about 2 minutes work to setup, and would have taken about the same on linux, without you know the 2 months of pain. *sigh*
Competence anyone?
Posted by diamond in : Work , 1 comment so farToday i went to the ul library to see if i could check-out one of the staff winxp install discs. After wandering around for a bit looking for obvious signs i gave up and went to one of the staffed desks and asked. The attendant got up and rummaged through a pile of cds.
Her: “I don’t see it here, it must be out”
Me: “Ok, no problem”
Her: “I can give you office..”
Me: “Um, no, thanks”
In other news of competence, i finally discovered (thanks to davisc) why windows update fails to work here in ul. It turns out that windows update ignores the normal proxy settings, using an entirely different (and by default blank) set. Special. ‘proxycfg -u’ copies the settings from IE and allows things to start working again thankfully.
