Posted by diamond in : Random , trackbackI got a phonecall from my father today, my 1991 toyota carina (which has ~326k miles on the clock) failed the NCT. The problems: 2 bushings gone, and there’s a slight oil leak. I think that’s probably the best fail i’ve ever heard of. Here’s to another year or two of service from the old workhorse -)

[…] So. A lot has happened since my car failed it’s nct. The oil leak was no problem to fix, i knew the rocker-cover gasket was faulty for some time. The bushings were an entirely different problem. They’re available new from toyota (toyota really do rock at continuing to produce new parts for vehicles that have become ancient), unfortunately they only come as part of the suspension, bringing the cost to more than the car is worth. Myself and my father (mostly him to be fair ,-) spent some time ringing scrapyards, as far a field as cork and northern ireland. All of them either no longer had carina II’s or, in their words, “We have those bushings, but whatever state yours are in, ours are worse”. […]
