So. A lot has happened since my car failed its nct. The oil leak was no problem to fix, i knew the rocker-cover gasket was faulty for some time. The bushings were an entirely different problem. They’re available new from toyota (toyota really do rock at continuing to produce new parts for vehicles that have become ancient), unfortunately they only come as part of the suspension, bringing the cost to more than the car is worth. Myself and my father (mostly him to be fair ,-) spent some time ringing scrapyards, as far afield as cork and northern ireland. All of them either no longer had carina II’s or, in their words, “We have those bushings, but whatever state yours are in, ours are worse”.

I had been beginning to despair when we heard tell of a self-trained engineer (whose day job is farming) in longford who has an entire workshop of tools (some of which are of his own design) he uses for building his own car parts for his interest in stockcar racing. The only snag is that as this is just a hobby, he will pretty much only take on work for others that no-one else can do, so you have to pitch it to him just right. Fortunately my father is the man for that job. Parts manufactured and fitted, the car had its repeat NCT today, and passed. Horrah for the old battle-wagon -)
